About Ipswich

Long treated as Brisbane’s poor cousin, Ipswich reveals its surprises to anyone who visits. While its early intent to become the Queensland state capital may have been thwarted, the history of the town and surrounds are clearly on display with over 6,000 heritage buildings.

Tourism has become an important industry to the region – with attractions such as the Workshop Rails Museum, V8 Racing at Willowbank, and more than 500 parks for locals and daytrippers to enjoy – while film-making in the area, including Hollywood titles like San Andreas are also helping expand the economy beyond its still-strong mining and manufacturing background.

Continued Population increases are a key driver for sustainability and growth of Ipswich businesses and residential property values. The earliest growth spurt was in the 1850s, when shortly after the town’s name was changed from “Limestone” to “Ipswich” the population almost tripled in just 5 years!

Since then, the population has doubled on average about every 20 years with the South East Queensland plan projecting another doubling from today’s 190,000 people to over 435,000 by the year 2031.

This will have an obvious benefit to home builders and developers in the area – keeping Suburban Pest Managements Pre-Construction and Termite Inspection teams busy as woodlands transform into leafy suburbs that build upon the region’s heritage charm.
